Choices, options and votes
Put several options on a day ("Afternoon: castle or museum?"), let everyone vote, then pick one; only the picked option counts.
Updated October 26, 2026
Not everything is decided when you plan. A choice (or "choose one") sits on a day with two or more options: dinner at Augustiner or the Hofbräuhaus, the castle or the museum for the afternoon, which hotel in Munich. Everyone on the trip can see the options and vote; an editor picks one when you've decided.
Reading a choice
An undecided choice is a box on its day, marked Undecided. If it has a time it sits in the day's timeline at that time; otherwise it comes after the timeline. Each option shows:
- its title and notes, and a More ↗ link if it has one;
- what's in it: journeys, a stay, activities, meals or notes, shown as they would be on the day;
- its estimated cost (the option's own estimate plus its activities' and journeys' costs; in their currency, or the trip's home currency when they mix) and how long it takes, when that's known;
- 👍 and how many people voted for it, with their names.
An undecided choice adds one to the day's ⚠ and to Needs attention ("N decisions", which links to the first one). The To do page lists every undecided choice at the top.
Until an option is picked, nothing in it counts. Its trains, stays, meals and activities aren't in the day's timeline, in Not booked yet, in the trip's cost estimate, on the map or in the calendar feed. The calendar shows one all-day event instead, "Undecided: Castle / Deutsches Museum". The shared read-only link never shows choices.
Voting
Anyone who can comment on the trip can vote: click 👍 on the option you'd like. Click it again to take your vote back. You have one vote per option, so you can vote for more than one. Viewers see the votes but can't vote.
Picking
Editors click Pick on an option. Its items then count as the day's own: they join the timeline, Not booked yet, the cost estimate, the map and the calendar. The other options aren't deleted: the day shows Chosen from: Afternoon (2 options) — Castle, which opens the options Considered, with their votes. Reopen the choice there makes it undecided again.
Picking and reopening are in the trip's history; Undo on a pick reopens the choice.
Making a choice
Editors make a choice on a day in either of two ways:
- + Add at the end of the day: type what's being decided ("Afternoon") and click Options (adding a day).
- The day's page: + Choose one under Add to this day.
Either opens the choice's page: what's being decided, an optional time (it then sits in the timeline), notes, and its Options (title, notes, a link, an estimated cost). Save, and each saved option gets a box to add things straight into it: type a line such as "Train Munich → Füssen 9:15" or "Dinner Augustiner 7pm", as in + Add.
To put something already on the day into an option, open it (its panel or page) and choose the option under In option. Set it back to blank to take it out. Deleting a choice keeps everything that was in its options, simply on the day.
From older trips
Trips planned before choices have Choose your adventure sections and decision to-dos instead. Needs attention offers N to convert to notes and choices: each becomes a choice on its day, with its options. A decision's chosen option stays picked, and the to-do is ticked off with a note saying where it went. A decision with no day goes on its journey's, stay's or activity's day, else Day 1 (flagged to check). A Choose your adventure with a confirmation number on it is left as it is. New to-dos can't be decisions any more: make a choice instead.
In the PDF
An undecided choice prints as "Afternoon — undecided" with each option and what's in it. A picked one prints what was chosen, with its items among the day's own.
