How to add a day to your trip

Add a day, fill in its details, then add legs, activities and meals to it.

For trip editors · Updated October 19, 2026

A guide for trip editors.

Before you start

You need editor access to the trip. If you can see a trip but have no Edit trip button at the top of its page, ask the trip's owner to make you an editor.

A day is one date of the trip. Everything that happens on that date hangs off it: train and flight legs, activities, meals, notes and tips. You add the day first, then fill it in.

Have these ready:

  • The date (required).
  • The day number (the site suggests the next one).
  • Optionally: the city you spend the day in, a one-line theme such as "Oktoberfest — Munich day trip", and who is on the day if the group splits up.

Add the day

It takes five steps; the day is saved at step 5.

  1. Open Trips in the left menu and click your trip.
  2. Click Edit trip at the top of the trip page.
  3. Scroll down to the Days section, below the trip's main form.
  4. Click Add a day. The "Add a day to …" page opens.
  5. Fill in the fields (next section) and click Add day.

You land back on Edit trip with a green "Added day N" message, and the new day appears in the Days table.

Fill in the day's details

Only the date and day number are required; leave the rest blank if you don't know yet.

Field What to enter Example
Day number Pre-filled with the next free number. Two days on one trip can't share a number. 5
Date The calendar date of this day. Required. Sep 21, 2027
City Where you spend the day, not where you sleep. The list shows the trip's cities. Munich (even if you sleep in Augsburg)
Theme A one-line summary shown as the day's title. Oktoberfest — Munich day trip
Meals included Tick only if meals are already covered by the trip price, such as on a tour. Unticked
Travelers Leave blank when the whole group is together. Pick names only on days the group splits. Debbie, James, John, Regan

If the city you need isn't in the list, add it to the trip first under Edit trip. A day covered by a stay picks up the stay's city automatically when the city is left blank.

Add what happens that day

A new day starts empty; you fill it from its day page. To get there, either click the day's Edit link in the Days table on Edit trip, or open the day on the trip page and click Edit this day.

At the top of the day page, Add to this day has a button for each kind of thing:

Button Use it for What you enter
+ Leg A train, flight, drive or walk From, To, Mode, a rough time ("45 min") and a note. Add exact times later, once booked.
+ Activity A tour, timed entry, ticket, table booking or car hire Kind, title, provider, start and end time, place, cost, notes.
+ Meal A restaurant or food stop Name, meal type, cuisine, price range, why it's recommended. Give it a Reservation time only if a table is booked.
+ Contact or note A phone number or tip for the whole day A contact (name, phone, email) or an info note (title and text).
Section buttons The day's write-up Phase (a part of the day, e.g. "Morning — check out"), Free text, Callout (a tip or warning), Choose your adventure (options to pick from), Logistics table, Travel (a group for the day's legs).

Everything you add appears under On this day, in the same order as on the trip page. Each item has its own Confirmations and Contacts & info links for booking numbers and phone numbers.

Items with a time (legs, activities, booked meals) go on the day's timeline in time order. Meals without a reservation time appear under Food ideas.

A meal can name its catalogue Place (in the Meals form), and a section a Place or an Activity (on the section's page). The lists offer only places and activities in the trip's cities, so add the city to the trip first. It's optional: most meals stay plain text, and only notable restaurants are in the catalogue. A linked item shows the catalogue name as a link on the trip page and as plain text in the booklet.

When a meal's name or a section's title is the name of one catalogue place or activity in the trip's cities (capitals, punctuation and accents don't matter, and German ö, ä, ü may be written oe, ae, ue), On this day shows Looks like … — Link / Not this one. Nothing is linked until you click Link; Not this one stops suggesting it.

Check it on the trip page and in the booklet

Open the trip page. Your day appears in three places:

  • Overview: a row with its date, city, where you sleep, travel and highlights. Click the day's number to jump to it.
  • Days: the day itself, folded. Click its title to open it and check the timeline, write-up and food ideas.
  • Download PDF: the printed booklet gives the day its own section, with its stay, legs, activities and meals.

Tips and troubleshooting

Problem Fix
"Day N already exists on this trip." Pick an unused day number. Each day of a trip needs its own number.
No Edit trip button You have view-only access. Ask the trip's owner to make you an editor.
The city you want isn't in the list Add the city to the trip on Edit trip first, then come back to the day.
A train or flight shows on the wrong day Edit the leg and correct its date. A leg appears on the day whose date matches its departure.
Need to change a day Edit trip → Days → Edit, change the fields, then click Save day.
Need to remove a day On Edit trip, in the Days table, click the day's Delete link and confirm. This permanently removes the day with its meals and sections; booking tasks that pointed at it are kept.

Tip: add a Phase for each part of the day first (Morning, Afternoon, Evening). Then add the legs, activities and meals with times, so the timeline and the write-up line up.
